New Delhi: India’s COVID-19 tally rose to 33,87,500 on Friday with a record high of 77,266 new cases reported overnight.
This is the second time that the country has registered 75,000 plus cases in a single day.
Also, 1,057 more patients succumbed to the virus in the last 24 hours, the Health Ministry said. The death toll now stands at 61,529.
The country has also jumped past Brazil to have the second-highest active COVID-19 cases globally.
About 76.28 per cent (25,83,948) people have recovered from the infection so far, including 60,177 patients discharged on Thursday. Another 21.90 per cent (7,42,043) are still under treatment.
According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), 3,94,77,848 samples have been tested in the country so far, including 9,01,338 on Thursday.
