Ahmedabad: There’s good news for Indian cricket fans who have been dying to see Shubman Gill in action at the ODI World Cup.
The dashing opener has recovered from dengue and is fit to play the high-profile India versus Pakistan match at Narendra Modi Stadium, Motera, here on Sunday.
When the most obvious question was asked at the pre-match press conference, skipper Rohit Sharma said Gill is “99% available” for the Pakistan game.
Gill, the world’s leading run-getter in ODIs this year with 1,230 runs at an average of 72.35 and strike rate of 105.03, missed India’s first two matches in the World Cup – against Australia and Afghanistan – as he was down with dengue.
After India’s opening game in Chennai, Gill didn’t travel with the team to Delhi as he was still under treatment. Once he was discharged from hospital, Gill travelled to Ahmedabad two days ago and got down to the nets from Thursday itself.
Gill should replace Ishan Kishan, who had opened the innings with Rohit against Aussies and Afghans.
