New Delhi: “India wins once again”, Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted on Thursday as election trends indicated a clean sweep for the BJP in the Lok Sabha polls.
This was the first comment from the Prime Minister, as the results showed his party was leading in 285 parliamentary seats and 343 seats in alliance with NDA partners.
Modi, during his campaigns, had rallied support for his party with the slogan “Aab ki baar 300 paar“. The results have far exceeded his expectations.
“This Sunday when you go to cast your vote then you will be scripting history. After decades you will elect a majority govt for the second time in a row,” Modi had said in his campaigns.
In the 2014 election, the NDA had won 336 seats and the BJP 282 seats on its own.
As the results began pouring in, world leaders sent their congratulatory messages to the Prime Minister. They included Russian President Vladimir Putin, Chinese premier Xi Jinping and Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
