Itanagar: Amid rising tensions between the two countries, the Indian Army handed over 13 Yaks and 4 calves, which had strayed across the Line of the Actual Control (LAC) in Arunachal Pradesh, to China as a sign of ‘humane gesture’, according to the Eastern Command of Indian Army.
China’s counterpart also thanked the Indian Army for the “compassionate gesture”, the Eastern Command said.
The command tweeted: “In a humane gesture, the Indian Army handed over 13 Yaks and four Calves that strayed across the LAC on August 31 in East Kameng, Arunachal Pradesh to China on 07 Sep 20. Chinese officials present thanked the Indian Army for the compassionate gesture.”
Tense situation prevails in both the northern Pangong Tso lake area and in Arunachal border. China recently claimed that it didn’t recognise the region of Arunachal Pradesh and claimed it to be part of Tibet. Five individuals from Arunachal have been feared kidnapped by China’s People’s Liberation Army.
