Washington: Dr Celine Gounder, an Indian-origin physician, is set to be part of the United States President-elect Joe Biden’s COVID-19 task force.
Gounder — an assistant professor in the New York University Grossman School of Medicine — has Tamil roots like the Vice President-elect Kamala Harris.
Dr Raj Natarajan Gounder, her father, hails from Modakurichi village in Erode. He moved to the United States and served with Boeing in Seattle for two years after having completed BE in Metallurgy, according to reports.
The COVID-19 task force comprises 13 members from diverse fields and it has been formed by the president-elect to shape his ‘approach to managing’ the surge in COVID-19 cases and quest for a vaccine.
Besides Gounder, Indian-origin Surgeon General Dr Vivek Murthy will also be a part of Biden’s task force.
