Bhubaneswar: The two-day international seminar on Santh Kavi Bhima Bhoi and legacy of Mahima cult started in Bhubaneswar on Saturday.
Inaugurating the seminar, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan spoke on how poet Bhima Bhoi’s philosophy and poems addressed the problems of the most vulnerable in society. “Bhima Bhoi and Santh Balaram Das played a leading role in reawakening the cultural and literary consciousness of Odia society,” he added.
Bhima Bhoi’s philosophy is more relevant now than ever and a guiding principle for society, he said. On Mahima cult, Pradhan said its philosophy will always remain a source of inspiration for him.
Several academicians and scholars from Odisha, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Andhra Pradesh and West Bengal were present at the seminar. A short video on Bhima Bhoi and the legacy of the Mahima cult was shown during the programme.
The seminar was organised by the Ministry of Education Central in collaboration with University of Odisha, Guru Ghasidas Viswavidyalaya, Central Tribal University of Andhra Pradesh, SOA Deemed University Bhubaneswar and Centre of Excellence for Studies in Classical Odia, CIIL.
