Bengaluru: Charu Sharma resumed bidding for IPL Auction 2020 after it was halted for a couple of hours with auctioneer Hugh Edmeades collapsing midway through the event here on Saturday.
Sri Lankan cricketer Wanindu Hasarangsa was the first to go under the hammer as the auction resumed after an early lunch, and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) retained him for a whopping Rs 10.75 crore. RCB had earlier bought Harshal Patel, who won the Purple Cap in the 2021 edition of the tournament, for Rs 10.75 crore. They along with Shreyas Iyer have so far breached double-figures in the auction.
Shreyas has so far been the most expensive buy with Kolkata Knight Riders signing him for Rs 12.25 crore.
The first buy of the day went to Punjab Kings, which bought Shikhar Dhawan for Rs 8.25 crore. Australian ace pacer Pat Cummins is back with KKR at Rs 7.25 crore while Rajasthan Royals have bought R Ashwin for Rs 5 crore and Trent Boult for Rs 8 crore.
Gujarat Titans picked Mohammad Shami for Rs 6.25 crore. The former CSK opener, Faf du Plessis, has been bought by Royal Challengers at Rs 7 crore.
Lucknow Super Giants picked Quinton de Kock for 6.75 crore while Delhi Capitals bought David Warned, the former SRH opener, for Rs 6.25 crore.
A number of high profile players including ‘Mr IPL’ Suresh Raina, Steve Smith, David Miller, and Shakib Al Hasan remained unsold in the first round of bidding.
India batter Manish Pandey was picked by Lucknow Super Giants for Rs 4.6 crore. Windies left-handed batter Shimron Hetmyer was bought by Rajasthan Royals for Rs 8.5 crore. India batter Robin Uthappa was acquired by Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for Rs 2 crore.
