Bengaluru: After nine hours of bidding and buying, stand-in auctioneer Charu Sharma called a halt to Day 1 of the IPL 2022 Auction at 9.40 pm on Saturday.
Of the cld to the 10 teams, which include the two news franchises Lucknow Super Giants and Gujarat Titans.
Proceedings on second day will begin at noon, when the fate of 493 more players will be decided. The 10 franchises can also ask for some of the players who went unsold today to be brought back for consideration on Day 2.
The process on Saturday was a bit slow, especially in the first part of the session as auctioneer Hugh Edmeades collapsed around 2.10 pm while bidding for Sri Lankan allrounder Wanindu Hasaranga was underway. Two Indians occupied the top positions on Day 1, as far as raking in the moolah is concerned.
Mumbai Indians broke the bank to retain wicketkeeper-batsman Ishan Kishan at a cost Rs 15.25 crore — the second-most expensive buy since Yuvraj Singh – while Chennai Super Kings shelled out Rs 14 crore to keep medium-pacer Deepak Chahar in their ranks.
