Bengaluru: Shah Rukh Khan chose to stay away from the IPL Auction on Saturday. But Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) were keen to acquire his namesake for the upcoming 15th season of IPL.
There was a heavy three-way bidding for Shahrukh Khan, an allrounder from Tamil Nadu who has been producing some scintillating performances in domestic cricket during the last few seasons.
KKR showed interest initially for Shahrukh, along with Chennai Super Kings. But as his asking price soared by leaps and bounds starting from a base price of Rs 40 lakh, KKR were forced to pull out as they had already spent big money from their allocated budget for players like Shreyas Iyer, Pat Cummins and Nitish Rana.
Punjab Kings ultimately won the bidding war for the 26-year-old power-hitter and off-spinner, shelling out a whopping Rs 9 crore!
