New Delhi: The security for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024, scheduled to be held in the USA and West Indies, has been tightened following a threat from terror group ISIS-K earlier this year. Notably, the mega event has received a security threat, particularly for the high-voltage clash between India and Pakistan on June 9 at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium, New York, India Today reported.
New York Governor Kathy Hochul has questioned the credibility of the threat and assured that her team has been working to keep the fans safe and has elevated the security measures.
“In preparation for the T20 World Cup 2024, my team has been working with federal & local law enforcement to keep attendees safe. While there is no credible threat at this time, I’ve directed New York Police to elevate security measures & we’ll continue to monitor as the event nears,” wrote Hochul on her X account.
Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman has assured that their team has rigorously planned the security and health care concerns for the massive influx of fans the tournament will experience. “This is like the Super Bowl on steroids. There will be teams from all over the world coming in. There will be fans from all over the world coming to Nassau County â€æ we have been meeting for well over six months on a regular basis to talk about security concerns and health care concerns, which could potentially arise at any kind of event of this magnitude,” Bruce Blakeman was quoted as saying by CNN.
Blakeman further revealed the county’s coordinated efforts to tighten security along with federal partners such as the FBI, Department of Homeland Security and other law enforcement and homeland security and intelligence agencies.
Acknowledging the threat, Nassau County Police Commissioner Patrick J. Ryder assured fans of the robust security deployed to prevent mishaps.
“We take every threat seriously. There are the same procedures for every threat. To that end, we have taken many, many precautions as well as making sure that the stadium and the surrounding Eisenhower Park are safe,” he was quoted as saying.
