The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) launched the electronic intelligence satellite EMISAT along with 28 nano satellites of global customers from Sriharikota launch station at 9:27 am on Monday.
According to agency reports, this low-Earth orbit satellite weighing 436 kg would monitor and give locations of enemy radar sites deep in their territory. Till now, India was using airplanes as early warning platforms.
“The immediate mission what we are targeting is the PSLV C-45. This mission is special in the sense, for the first time PSLV will have a three-orbit mission in a single flight,” NDTV said, quoting ISRO chairman K Sivan.
Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) was used for the launch. This is the 71st launch vehicle mission for Sriharikota.
This comes six days after DRDO test-fired an anti-satellite (ASAT) missile under Mission Shakti operation to boost national security.
