Bhadrak: An ITI student was admitted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack in a critical condition after allegedly consuming poison on Friday.
The student, identified as Ashutosh Mallik, is a resident of Nandapur and is a first-year student of a private educational institution in Tihidi.
According to sources, his family found him lying on the ground and rushed him to the district headquarters hospital in Bhadrak, from where he was shifted to SCB in a critical condition. Ashutosh is still in an unconscious state.
The cause behind the student’s alleged suicide attempt is yet to be ascertained. Meanwhile, his family has alleged ragging but no complaint has been lodged yet.
“My brother is a first year student and his seniors have abused him verbally in the college. He did not share anything with us and took the extreme step. We found him unconscious and rushed him to DHH for immediate treatment. We demand justice for my brother else several other students will continue to be a victim of ragging,” Ashutosh’s brother told mediapersons.
On being informed, the local police arrived at the spot and initiated a probe into the matter. A purported suicide note was also recovered from his house. The students of his college are also likely to be questioned.
