Puri: Jagannath temple in Odisha’s Puri will remain closed to devotees for conducting ‘Rahu Rekha Lagi’ ritual of sibling deities for 5 hours on Monday.
According to Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA), since ‘Rahu Rekha Lagi’ is a secret ritual of the deities, the devotees will not be allowed to have darshan of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra.
The ritual will be performed from 3 pm to 8 pm. The main doors of the temple will remain closed during the period, the SJTA said.
According to sources, during the ‘Rahu Rekha Lagi’ ritual, a special golden strip called “Rahu Rekha”, which is removed from the heads of the deities on the Snana Purnima, is put back on the deities. The Daitapati servitors perform the ritual in closed sanctum sanctorum.
It may be noted that darshan in the temple was restricted for four hours on August 23 for the Banakalagi ritual.
