Cuttack: Chilika MLA Prashant Jagdev has been admitted to SCB Medical College and Hospital (MCH) in Cuttack.

The BJP MLA candidate from Khurda was in jail custody after being arrested on charges of vandalising an EVM and assaulting polling personnel at booth number 114 at Kaunripatana upper primary school in Bolagarh block under Begunia assembly constituency during the third-round polling on May 25.

According to sources, Jagdev was admitted to the hospital after his health condition deteriorated in jail. He is undergoing treatment in the ICU of the Medicine ward of SCB MHC. His lawyer told the media that he was hospitalised due to issues related to spinal cord. He is also severely diabetic.

The hospital authorities said that he was admitted to the ICU due to high blood sugar level. Insulin is being administered to him continuously. A team of doctors from Cardiology, Endocrinology and Medicine departments are monitoring his health condition and conducting the required tests.

This came a day after Election Commission of India ordered expeditious investigation in the case registered against him.

On Tuesday, BJP leader and Bhubaneswar MP Aparajita Sarangi also shared a purported CCTV footage of the polling station, where the alleged incident took place, on her Facebook account to prove that Jagdev had no role in toppling the EVM. Following which, Chief Electoral Officer, Odisha, directed District Election Officer (DEO), Khurda, to conduct an inquiry into the viral video and clarify the matter.
