Melbourne: Foreign Minister S Jaishankar presented Australian foreign minister Marise Payne with a cricket bat signed by former India cricket captain Virat Kohli during a visit to the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground on Friday.
During the visit to Australia to attend the crucial meeting of Quad Foreign Ministers, Jaishankar visited the country’s largest and most revered sports stadium accompanied by Payne, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Japanese Foreign Minister Hayashi Yoshimasa. The visit marked a “fitting end to a busy day”.
The Quad Foreign Ministers’ meeting was hosted by Payne. “Quad FMs visit the @MCG. Presented @MarisePayne with a bat signed by @imVkohli,” Jaishankar said on Twitter while sharing a photo.
“A message of fair play and rules of the game,” the Indian minister added, in an apparent message to neighbours China, which is flexing muscles in the Indo-Pacific region.
