Rourkela: Police have arrested the owner of a Jan Seva Kendra in Rourkela of Odisha’s Sundargarh district for allegedly taking money to give the form for state government’s Subhadra scheme.

Speaking to media persons here on Saturday, Rourkela SDPO Nirmal Kumar Mohapatra said Bijay Sahu, the owner of Global Internet Centre at Madhusudan Square in the city used to run a Jan Seva Kendra. After the government introduced its welfare scheme Subhadra, his Kendra was also issuing forms to the beneficiaries.

As per the scheme, the beneficiaries have to fill up the form and submit at the Kendra to avail the benefits of Subhadra. But the government had repeatedly announced that the service was free of cost and also warned the Jan Seva Kendras across the state of legal action if any fee was charged for it.

Mohapatra said despite the government’s warning, Sahu used to charge Rs 50 per form to the beneficiaries. An aware woman beneficiary filed a complaint against Sahu at Rourkela Plant Site police station.

Acting on the complaint, the police registered a case and arrested Sahu, the SDPO said adding that he was forwarded to the court on Saturday.
