Bhubaneswar: Three days after being disengaged from Jatni flyover bridge construction work by the state government, Panda Infra Projects Private Limited has demanded its re-engagement in the project work.

In a letter to state Works Department, the company stated that it adhered to all the guidelines laid by the government while carrying out the construction work and urged that it should be allowed to complete the project.

On the other hand, works secretary Nalini Pradhan said, “We have removed the construction firm from the construction project following the court’s order in this regard and repeated allegation regarding its poor quality work. However, we are ready to move the court, if the agency concerned does the same.”

The company’s standard of constructions had come under the scanner of the government after a 5 X 5 feet iron plate of the under-construction over-bridge near Kudiary Bazaar in Jatni collapsed on August 9.

Following the mishap, members of Jatni Traders’ Association had demanded disengagement of the firm from the flyover construction project citing poor quality work. They had alleged that the pilling of the flyover bridge should be 60 feet, but the agency used 20-feet iron rods.

In May, the government had ordered a vigilance inquiry into the alleged irregularities in construction of the flyover.

The construction firm was in the news in the wake of two mishaps at under-construction Bomikhal road over-bridge in the last ten months.
