Bhopal: A labourer, who lost his job after the coronavirus-induced lockdown, killed himself and his three daughters by jumping into a well in Bhind district of Madhya Pradesh on Saturday.
According to a police official, 42-year-old Rajesh Rajak used to work in Mumbai but returned home to Andhiyari village, 40 km from Bhind, after the factory he was working in closed down.
With no earnings and so many family members to feed, Rajak was pushed to desperation with every passing day. He reportedly had frequent arguments and quarrels with his wife, including one on Friday night, after which Rajesh tied daughters Anushka (10), China (8) and Sandhya (5) to his waist with a rope and jumped into a well near his house.
He spared the youngest daughter, who is two and a half years old.
Once the incident came to light on Saturday morning, villagers alerted the police who fished out the four bodies from the well.
