Mumbai: Johnny Lever had to drop out of school in Class VII, not for any fault of his.
The champion comedian didn’t hold back while talking about his school days, which was a very difficult period of his life.
In a recent interview to Mashable India, Lever recalled his class teacher loved him very much, but his father who was an alcoholic.
“My father was an alcoholic, due to which he never paid any attention to us, but it was my elder uncle who paid us for our fees and ration. So after a while I got infuriated and left school. But I got a lot of love while I was in school, I used to imitate everyone,” Lever said in an episode of The Bombay Journey.
“My class teacher, Damyanti teacher, was very lovely. I am still in touch with her. When I left, she sent the students to call me and even wanted to pay my fees and for my clothes so that I could join back school,” the 65-year-old Lever added.
Lever, who has worked in over 300 Hindi films and won several awards, was last seen in Rohit Shetty’s ‘Cirkus’ starring Ranveer Singh and Varun Sharma in dual roles.
Lever’s two children, daughter Jamie and son Jessy, are also in the entertainment industry.
The father-daughter duo worked together in ‘Housefull 2’ (2019) and are now featuring in web series ‘Pop Kaun’.
