Bhubaneswar: The Vigilance sleuths on Friday apprehended Durga Prasad Mohapatra, a junior stenographer of District Treasury office in Odisha’s Nayagarh district, while allegedly demanding and accepting bribe Rs 48,000.
He had demanded the bribe to process applications of 161 teachers (Rs 300 per teacher) for opening Permanent Retirement Account Number from PRAN centre under IT Department in Bhubaneswar, an official release said.
The entire bribe amount was recovered from his possession, it added.
While a case has been registered under Sector 7 of Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) act, 2018, simultaneous searches are underway at two locations from disproportionate angle.
