Bhubaneswar: Former Orissa High Court judge, Justice Bimal Prasad Das took charge as the Odisha Human Rights Commission (OHRC) chairperson on Wednesday.
Speaking on the occasion, Justice Das said he would give priority to transparency. “I will try to ensure early disposal of the cases pending at the Commission for a long time and no one will be spared for human rights violation,” he added.
He further said that emphasis will be given on the use of technology during the investigation of cases.
Notably, the state government had appointed Justice Das as the OHRC chairperson on August 22. Governor Ganeshi Lal had approved his appointment following the recommendation of a government-formed selection committee.
The permanent post of the OHRC chairperson had been lying vacant for seven years. Justice Bira Kishore Mishra served as the acting chairperson of the commission till August 15.
