Union Minister of Law and Justice Arjun Ram Meghwal, in a post in his official handle of X (former Twitter) on Friday, said President Droupadi Murmu has appointed chief justices of six high courts including Odisha.

“In exercise of the power conferred by the Constitution of India, the President of India, after consultation with Chief Justice of India, is pleased to appoint the following High Court Judges as Chief Justices of High Courts,” he said.

The collegium of the Supreme Court headed by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud had recommend the appointment of Justice Singh as the Chief Justice of Orissa High Court in November, 2023.

Justice Singh will replace the present acting chief justice Bidyut Ranjan Sarangi of Orissa High Court. Justice Sarangi was appointed with effect from October 4, 2023 following superannuation of Chief Justice Subhasis Talapatra on October 3, 2023.

While recommending the name of Justice Singh, the collegium said, “He has maintained a high standard of professional ethics at the Bar and Bench and enjoys a good reputation for conduct and integrity. The Collegium is of the considered view that Justice Singh is fit and suitable in all respects for being appointed as the Chief Justice of the High Court of Orissa.”
