Kabul Gurdwara Attack: ISIS Revenge Against Insult To Prophet

New Delhi: An affiliate of Islamic State has claimed responsibility for the attack on a gurdwara in Afghanistan’s capital Kabul.

Two persons, including a Sikh, were killed and injured seven as terrorists stormed Gurdwara Karte Parwan in Kabul’s Bagh-e Bala area early on Saturday.

Islamic State Khorasan Province (ISKP) said that it carried out the attack to avenge now-suspended BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma’s derogatory remarks against Prophet Muhammad.

ISKP’s media wing posted on its Telegram channel that the attack was to target Hindus and Sikhs, and the “apostates” who protected them in “an act of support for the Messenger of Allah,” AFP reported.

The message said one of its fighters “penetrated a temple for Hindu and Sikh polytheists in Kabul, after killing its guard, and opened fire on the pagans inside with his machine gun and hand grenades.”

According to Afghanistan’s Interior ministry, the terrorists were involved in a gunfight with Taliban soldiers. After several hours, the three attackers were killed by Taliban forces.

ISKP had warned of an attack against Hindus to avenge the insult to the Prophet in a video message a few days ago. It also targeted Taliban and its ministers for trying to build a relationship with India.
