Cuttack: Several puja committees on Sunday decided to celebrate a three-day Kali puja in the city commencing November 4 in a cordial and peaceful atmosphere.
The Kali puja organisers held a meeting at OCA Assembly Hall in the city in presence of Twin City Police Commissioner Soumendra Priyadarshi, Deputy Commissioner of Police Prateek Singh, IICs of police stations, members of Mahanagar Peace Committee, representatives of Eastern Zone Peace Committee and local puja committees.
It was decided that the idols would be submerged on November 6 in an artificial pond being constructed at Devigada on the bank of River Kathajodi. The puja organisers, however, urged the police commissionerate to allow them to transport idols in tractors.
Mahanagar Shanti Committee general secretary Pravat Tripathy urged the officials to allow the organisers to take out immersion procession in open trucks (without curtains) as there would not be many to watch it around midnight.
“We thanked the organisers for taking out immersion processions of Goddess Durga recently with utmost restraint amid COVID guidelines. We hope that they will exercise similar restraint during immersion of Kali idols,” said Police Commissioner Soumendra Praiyadarshi.
