Bangalore: Bangalore police on Tuesday detained Kannada cine actor Darshan Thoogudeepa and his nine associates in connection with murder of a youth, Renuka Swamy (33) of the city.
The actor was picked from a hotel in Mysuru and shifted to Bangalore, the Hindu reported.
According to sources, the deceased, an assistant in a medical shop at Chitadurga, had allegedly posted some offensive remarks against a female actor, Pavithra Gowda who has also been detained, on social media. The victim was allegedly tortured and killed at Darshan’s farmhouse in Mysuru.
He was found dead in a stormwater drain in Kamakshipalya. Police recovered the body after some local residents alerted them. The forensic report later confirmed that the 33-year-old was murdered.
“Around 10 people, including one of the actors of Kannada film industry, have been detained and they are being questioned in connection with a murder case registered in Kamakshipalya Police Station limits of Bengaluru West division on June 9. The details are yet to be ascertained and the matter is under investigation. The details are awaited,” Bengaluru Police Commissioner B. Dayananda told in a presser.
Police are investigating whether the actor was directly involved in the murder or was part of the conspiracy.
