Kanya Kiran: Campaign To Stop Violence Against Women And Girl Child Launched

Bhubaneswar: The KISS in association with the UN Women and Kalinga Fellowship launched a campaign, ‘Kanya Kiran’ on Sunday to stop violence against women and girl child in 30 districts of the state.

 

Women and Child Development Minister Prafulla Samal, MP Dr Prasanna Kumar Patsani, Commissioner of Police YB Khurania, Commission for Protection of Child Rights Chairperson Sandhyabati Pradhan,  MLA Priyadarshi Mishra, Mayor Ananta Narayan Jena and many social activists flagged off the campaign and addressed the gathering.

 

The dignitaries on the occasion said despite stringent laws, the violence on women and girl child are increasing day by day.

 

“Unless mindsets of people change, we can’t overcome this problem. Awareness among the masses is the need of the hour. We all should come forward and fight against such evil activities. The KISS has taken a praiseworthy initiative by starting a campaign in the name of ‘Kanya Kiran’ to stop violence against women and girl child,” said the dignitaries.

 

In his welcome address, KIIT and KISS founder Dr Achyuta Samanta said, “For the last five years, during the summer break, the students of KISS and their parents engage themselves in awareness programmes on important social issues. This year 27,000 students of KISS along with their parents and 3,000 women staff of KIIT and KISS will be campaigning on the theme “Kanya Kiran” to stop violence against women and children.”

 

Among others, KIIT and KISSPresident Saswati Bal, Secretary RN Dash, KISS-DU VC Dr Harekrishna Satapathy, KIIT-DU Registrar Dr Sasmita Samanta, KISS CEO Dr Prashanta Kumar Routray, Kalinga TV CEO Himansu Khatua were present.

 

Representatives and volunteers of SOCH, SOPVA, We For You, Susampark, Youth For Seva, Parichaya, Udayama Charitable Trust, Winners’ Associtation, Janani, Sakha, Bakul Foundation, WISH, Unplugged Dreams, Satyanagar Ladies Forum, ISD, Smruti Seva Sanjog, AASHAYEIN, People For Seva and Ray of Hopes also joined the launching ceremony.

 

The campaign will end on June 7.
