Srinagar: Former J&K Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti’s daughter, Iltija Javed has accused the government of treating Kashmiris like animals who have been “caged” ever since the abrogation of Article 370.
In a letter to Home Minister Amit Shah, she questioned her detention along with her mother and scores of other leaders in the valley. She also expressed fear for her life.
“Today while the rest of the country celebrates India’s Independence Day, Kashmiris have been caged like animals and deprived of basic human rights,” she was quoted as saying by NDTV.
The channel also played a voice message which was released by Javed.
Here’s what she said:
“Kashmir has witnessed an inhuman and unprecedented blackout. I am not affiliated to any political party yet I have been detained. I have also been detained as I have been told that I have spoken to media as to what the Kashmiris are enduring ever since the curfew was imposed in the valley. I have also been threatened with dire consequences if I speak to the media again.
“I fail to understand why I am being punished for speaking out how this curfew has ravaged any semblance of normalcy Kashmiris had. I am being treated like a criminal and I am under constant surveillance. I fear for my life along with those Kashmiris who have spoken up”.
On August 6, she had alleged to the media that her mother was in solitary confinement at a government guest house.
