Thrissur: A man, who was admitted to a private hospital in Kerala’s Thrissur district with symptoms of monkeypox after returning from the UAE, died on Saturday.
The 26-year-old man had arrived in India on July 26.
He was admitted to hospital as he was having seizures with high fever, according to media reports. When he was admitted to hospital, he had only skin rashes. Swollen lymph nodes, a major symptom of monkeypox, appeared on Friday, the reports said.
Samples tested at the private hospital have confirmed the man died of monkeypox, TNIE reported. However, health officials are waiting for results from Alappuzha virology lab for confirmation.
If confirmed, it will be the first monkeypox death in the country.
Another Kerala man, India’s first monkeypox patient, has recovered from the disease.
