Khurda: Police on Monday released the driver, who was detained in connection with a rape of a young woman, due to lack of evidence.
Notably, a woman was found lying in a critical condition near PN College on NH-16 on November 7. She was later rescued by the Fire Services personnel.
Later, she lodged a complaint with Khandagiri Police stating that the driver of the car had given him a lift to Bhubaneswar. Another occupant of the car allegedly raped her while the vehicle was on the move. Later, she was thrown out of the vehicle near the college.
Acting on the complaint, police had arrested the car driver the following day.
However, the police released the driver on Monday after detaining him for four days as they could not find any tangible evidence on his complicity in the incident.
