Bhubaneswar: Commissionerate Police on Friday arrested six persons, including two BTech and a Plus II student, for their alleged involvement in the kidnapping of a student from Jagamara area here on Thursday.
The victim, Anuj Jha (20), student of a city-based engineering college, was rescued by police last night.
Those arrested were identified as Dev Arpit Mishra (22), Priya Ranjan Mallick (29), Chandan Dakua (25), Girish Naidu (22), Abhimanyu (42) and Jyoti Prakash Mohanty (25).
A four-wheeler vehicle, one motorcycle, one bullet and four cell phones were seized from them.
According to reports, Anuj, a native of Dhanbad in Jharkhand, was abducted by them around 1:30 pm on Thursday. The abductors demanded Rs 10 lakh ransom from his family and later settled for Rs 5 lakh to release him.
Basing on a complaint lodged by the victim’s brother at Khandagiri police station, police carried out raids at different places and managed to nab the accused.
According to Anuj, he could recognize one of the accused whom he had met a year ago through a common friend.
