Bhubaneswar: The BJP State Mahila Morcha on Monday claimed that a kin of the sitting BJD MLA of Polasara in Odisha’s Ganjam district was involved in the gang rape of a minor girl on October 31.
At a press meet here, BJP State Mahila Morcha president Pravati Parida said, “Though the police know about this, they are undone due to political pressure. We have decided to burn the effigy of the Chief Minister here in the afternoon. Besides, we have also decided to burn the effigy of the Chief Minister in all BJP organizational districts. Apart from this, a protest meeting will be held in all Assembly constituencies in Ganjam district tomorrow.”
According to the sources, three miscreants entered a person’s house in Balichhai village under Polasara block late on October 31 with the intention to steal. After looting the house, they took a minor girl of the family to a nearby field and allegedly gang-raped her. The family members were fast asleep at the time of the incident.
They rushed to the spot after hearing her scream for help. She was rushed to Polsara hospital and later shifted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur after her condition deteriorated.
On being informed, police reached the spot and started an investigation.
Three days after the incident, Ganjam Police detained eight persons while SP (Ganjam) Brijesh Ray had said that the sketches of the other suspects will be released soon.
