Bhopal: Aradhya Verma and Sohini Sanjay Mohanty scripted history by winning a gold medal for Odisha in tennis at the Khelo India Youth Games (KIYG) 2023 in Madhya Pradesh.
In the final of (U-18) women’s doubles, Aradhya and Sohini overcame their rivals from the host state on Thursday.
Odisha’s boys moved closer to glory by reaching the U-18 men’s hockey event final.
In a spectacular performance, Odisha boys dominated Jharkhand to beat them 1-0 in the semifinal clash.
There were multiple reasons to cheer from the rowing venue.
The duo of Sumit kumar Swain and Ravi Bedwal won the JM2 event to strike another gold for Odisha.
Gursharanpreet Kaur and Arunprit Kaur clinched silver in JW2X rowing event, while Priti Prangya Sahoo, Soumyashree Panda, Barsharani Sethi and Subhashree Susmita Biswal won bronze in JW4 category.
Odisha improved their tally to 27 medals comprising 11 gold, 6 silver and 10 bronze. They are in sixth place — trailing Maharashtra (44G, 49S, 40B); Haryana (38G, 25S, 35B); Madhya Pradesh (28G, 18S, 27B); Rajasthan (15G, 8S, 14B); Kerala (11G, 9S, 13B).
