Know Lowest & Highest Victory Margins In Odisha Assembly Elections

Bhubaneswar: Having scripted history in Odisha with a spectacular show in the Assembly polls in Odisha, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is all set to form government in the state on its own.

The saffron party has won 78 seats in the 147-member Assembly, decimating Biju Janata Dal (BJD) bastion as the regional party managed to bag 51 seats. The elections brought to an end the 24-year rule of the Naveen Patnaik-led BJD in the state.

A glance at the poll results shows that the victory margins of candidates in the just concluded Assembly elections vary widely. While the highest victory margin was 51,465 votes, the lowest stood at just 37 votes.

Poll results showed that BJD’ Ananta Narayan Jena won the Assembly elections from Bhubaneswar Central constituency with the lowest margin of 37 votes. While Jena polled 53,759 votes, his nearest BJP candidate Jagannath Pradhan secured 53,722 votes.

Similarly, BJD’s Ashwini Kumar Patra was elected from Jaleswar Assembly seat by a thin margin of 319 votes. He polled 83,105 votes while his nearest BJP nominee secured 82,786 votes.

BJD leader and former Minister Arun Kumar Sahoo won from Nayagarh with a slim margin of 439 votes. He polled 81,959 votes while his nearest BJP candidate Pratyusha Rajeswari Singh secured 81,520 votes.

The highest victory margin was scored by BJD’s Biswa Ranjan Mallick in Bari Assembly constituency in Jajpur district. Mallick won the Assembly polls with a whopping margin of 51,465 votes.

Similarly, Pradip Kumar Sahu of BJD won the elections from Begunia Assembly constituency with a margin of 47,814 votes.
