Bhubaneswar: Hard work and a steely resolve make everything achievable in life. Unflinching determination can battle thousands of odds to pave the way for success. That’s what majority of Odisha Civil Services achievers exemplified as they cleared the 2022 examination, the results for which were announced on October 19, this year. Be it overcoming the challenges of being from a tribal community of a remote village or hailing from an underprivileged background, the achievers have defeated adversities with their dedication.

Women steal the show

Women have topped the OCS Examination-2022. While Swetashree Mohapatra has topped the examination, Prinkil Parbin Parida has secured the second position. A resident of Bhadrak, it was Swetashree’s first attempt at the exams.

Swetashree Mohapatra, the topper

Swetashree Mohapatra is an alumnus of National Institute of Technology (NIT), Durgapur. She studied B.Tech in Electronics and Communication Engineering. Before trying her luck at the civil services, she had worked for the corporate sector for three years. She then quit her job around a year back to prepare for the exam. According to reports, Swetashree had dedicated at least 7 hours a day for her exam preparation.

Prinkil, a Nimapara native, had completed her MSc in Botany with a gold medal from Ravenshaw University. She began preparation for OCS immediately after completing her MSc. She is a farmer’s daughter. She appeared for the examination in October last year. The fourth position was again bagged by a woman, Parjna Parangama, who said that the entire journey was a struggle. She cleared the exam in the second attempt. Among the top-10 candidates, five are women (Deepam Rout at rank 6 and Amrita Sahoo at rank 10).

From the tribal communities

A tribal candidate, Shyama Madhi of Pottrel village in Korukonda block also cleared the examination. He was availing free coaching offered by the district administration-run Lakshya coaching centre, managed by Gurukul Foundation. He has secured 631 rank in the examination. He passed his HSC from Govindpalli high school in 2014 and intermediate from Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS). Madhi completed BSc with an honours in Botany from Malkangiri government model degree college. A tribal girl of PVTG Bonda community, Bini Muduli of Kehmaguru village in Khairput block also secured 594 rank. Bhagyashree Mishra of Medukuli village in Mathili block secured 138 rank.

Muduli, a girl from the Bonda tribe, is the first woman to clear the exam in her clan with YouTube as her primary study tool. She is the daughter of Ram Muduli, a cook at Mudulipada High School, and Sunamani Kirsani, an Anganwadi worker.

MP daughter clears OAS

Daughter of Jagatsinghpur, MP Bibhu Prasad Tarai’s daughter, Snigdha, cleared the examination as she secured the 252nd rank in the exam. The MP congratulated his daughter on social media.

“I congratulate my daughter Snigdha for achieving success in the OPSC exam and becoming an OAS officer as per the result published today,” said he wrote on X.

‘Don’t break down, pause and start again…’

Another achiever, Ambika Bhuyan, who cleared the exam in her first attempt after achieving 21st rank had a suggestion for aspirants. She said hard work and patience were the keys to her success, in an interview to a local channel.

She urged the aspirants to have patience and not break down on failure. Rather, she believes, aspirants should pause a bit and start again after bolstering their confidence level. She had dedicated at least six hours a day for at least a year for the preparation, reports stated.
