New Delhi: The Congress on Sunday described the Delhi police’ presence at Rahul Gandhi’s residence as an attempt to “intimidate” the Wayanad MP.
“The Delhi Police could not have reached Rahul Gandhi’s residence to question him without a signal from (Union Home Minister) Amit Shah”, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot told the media.
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge alleged that it was an attempt to divert public attention from the Adani issue. “Rahul Gandhi and Congress will not get scared. No matter how much they try to save Adani, we will continue to question them,” he said.
“Since the day Rahul Gandhi raised questions on the connection between PM Modi & Adani, the government started to harass him,” Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal added.
Top officers of the Delhi Police reached Rahul Gandhi’s 12, Tughlaq Lane residence this morning and served a fresh notice to Rahul Gandhi in connection with an earlier notice issued to him over his “women are still being sexually assaulted” remark made during the Bharat Jodo Yatra in Srinagar.
The police team headed by Special Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Sagar Preet Hooda stood outside the residence, for over an hour before the Wayanad MP met them and told them that since Bharat Jodo Yatra was long, he doesn’t remember anything, the NDTV reported.
“We held a meeting with Rahul Gandhi. He said he needs some time and will give us the information which we have asked for. Today, we have served a notice which has been accepted by his office and if questioning needs to be done then we will do it,” news agency ANI quoted Hooda as saying.
Once they left, Rahul was seen leaving the house in a car. The MP later told media that he does not feel intimidated by such moves and is not afraid of Narendra Modi.
