New Delhi: The World Health Organisation (WHO) has suspended the procurement of Covaxin, produced by Bharat Biotech, through UN agencies, NDTV reported. It said the step has been taken to allow the manufacturer to upgrade facilities and address deficiencies found in an inspection.
The WHO clarified that the vaccine is effective and no safety concerns exist.
Hyderabad-based Bharat Biotech on Sunday said there is “no impact on efficacy and safety of Covaxin”. “For the millions who have received Covaxin, the vaccine certificates issued still stand valid as there is no impact on efficacy and safety of the vaccine,” Bharat Biotech said in the statement, according to ANI.
WHO said the suspension followed an emergency use listing (EUL) inspection conducted from March 14 to 22.
