New Delhi: Questions are growing daily over the role of Sandip Ghosh, former principal of RG Kar Medical College & Hospital, in the rape and murder case of a junior doctor.

On Thursday, Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) sought permission from a court to conduct a lie-detector test on Ghosh.

The central probe agency, which took over the investigation from Kolkata Police a week ago on Calcutta High Court’s order, has already interrogated Ghosh over five days but is yet to find many answers.

CBI is now considering a polygraph test.

“We want to further verify Ghosh’s answers, as there have been discrepancies in some of the replies to our questions. Therefore, we are mulling the option to conduct a polygraph test on him,” PTI quoted an official as saying.

As principal of the medical college, Ghosh has been facing several basic questions – why were the victim’s parents’ first told she had committed suicide, why they were made to wait for three hours to see their daughter’s body, why the cremation took place in a hurry, why long delay in filing an FIR, reason behind renovation of rooms adjacent to the seminar hall where the body was found, etc.

Who is Ghosh protecting, asks Supreme Court

Even the Supreme Court on Thursday voiced concerns over the actions of Ghosh following the trainee doctor’s murder.

“What is the reason (a) for FIR to be lodged 14 hours of delay; (b) the principal of the college should have come straight to the college and filed the FIR, whom is he protecting? (c) he had resigned and was assigned to another college?” CJI Chandrachud asked.

It was the second day of hearing after Supreme Court agreed to hear the case suo motu.

The CBI has already obtained court permission to conduct a polygraph test on Sanjay Roy, who was arrested in connection with the case.
