Cuttack: The Orissa High Court has directed two senior police officers in Koraput district to personally appear before it during hearing of a petition relating to alleged illegal arrest.
The HC directed Koraput Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) and Inspector In-Charge (IIC) of Town Police Station to appear during hearing on virtual mode on February 16.
As per the court’s earlier order, the IIC had appeared before it during virtual hearing on Wednesday. However, the court was not satisfied with his replies and also directed the DSP to appear through virtual platform during the next hearing.
The bench of Justice Sanjeeb Kumar Panigrahi gave this direction while hearing a petition filed by Aloknath Behera, sources said.
As per the case record, Behera had lodged a complaint at Koraput Town Police station on August 28, 2022 alleging torture by his wife. He had also reportedly informed the SP about this.
As no step was reportedly taken by the police and Behera moved the High Court, which asked the Koraput SP to take a decision on his complaint.
However, no step was allegedly taken on his complaint despite the High Court’s direction. On the contrary, Behera was allegedly called to the police station on December 29, 2022 and subsequently arrested. Thereafter, Behera again approached the High Court alleging that he was arrested by the police in an illegal manner. The HC had on January 25 directed the IIC to appear before it during hearing.
