Bhubaneswar: The land acquisition process for the proposed steel plant project of JSW Utkal Steel Ltd (JUSL) in Odisha’s Jagatsinghpur district is expected to be completed in the next five months, an Odisha government official said on Monday.

The JUSL, a wholly-owned subsidiary of JSW, had proposed to set up a 13.2 million tonne per annum (mtpa) integrated steel project with an investment of Rs 65,000 crore in 2020 and accordingly, the government reserved 2,700 acres once earmarked for the Korean giant Posco’s mega steel plant, which failed to take off.

“Part of the land acquired for Posco has been transferred to JUSL. The land alienation process is going on and will be completed in the next four to five months,” an official of the Industrial Promotion and Investment Corporation of Odisha (IPICOL) told IANS.

At present, the construction of the boundary wall for the project site is underway, the official added.

IPICOL is the single point of contact for all industrial investments in Odisha.

Notably, the country’s largest steelmaker had inched a step closer to realising its greenfield steel plant with JSUL receiving environmental clearance (EC) for setting up the steel plant over 2,980 acres near Paradip in Jagatsinghpur last week.
