Bhubaneswar: A joint team, comprising officials of Team 60 and Counter Terrorist Squad (CTS) of the Commisisonerate Police, raided several hotels in Odisha capital late on Saturday.
According to sources, massive raids were carried out at those hotels, which hadn’t registered themselves on SARAI mobile application of the police, at Master Canteen, Ashok Nagar, Cuttack Road, Budheswari Basti, Nayapalli, Chandrasekharpur, Infocity and Kharavela Nagar in the city under the ‘Safe City’ drive.
The police team from Capital, Kharvela Nagar, Laxmisagar, Chandrasekharpur, Infocity and Nayapali reprimanded the authorities of the hotels and asked them to comply with the norms while checking for suspected criminals and illegal activities.
To check the rising crimes, including drug smuggling, the Commissionerate Police is keeping an eye on people checking into various hotels and lodges here through SARAI App launched in August 2021. Owners of hotels and lodges under Bhubaneswar Urban Police District have been asked to install the mobile application and update all information, including details of their guests, on a daily basis.
Several criminals in past have used lodging facilities in the city and escaped after committing crime. Two interstate criminals stayed in two hotels in Patia area here and robbed Rs 27 lakh from an ATM in October 2020.
