Bhubaneswar: To tackle traffic violations and promote road safety in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, the Twin City Commissionerate Police has decided to take strict action against frequent violators.

Commissioner of Police Soumendra Priyadarshi told a presser that traffic violators with five or more unpaid e-challans will be identified by the special traffic teams in the first phase. “The Commissionerate Police will actively pursue the collection of outstanding fines from these violators. Police complaints will be lodged against them if they fail to comply with the traffic rules and pay the fine immediately,” he said.

These offenders continue to disregard traffic regulations, posing a threat to public safety, he added.

The Commissionerate Police has also decided to shift focus to rising crime rate in the twin cities. All the police stations have been instructed to expedite investigation in cases pending for the last five years and file the chargesheet immediately, the CP said.
