Bhubaneswar: Forest officials seized a leopard hide and a python skin during raids and arrested 6 persons in this connection in Odisha’s Kalahandi district on Wednesday.
As per reports, the raids were carried out by a joint team of officials from Kalahandi South Division and Udanti-Sitanadi Tiger Reserve of Chhattisgarh in Amapani Ghati of Kalahandi district on border with Nabarangpur.
Following a tip-off that five persons were trying to sell the leopard hide, the team conducted the raid and seized the hide and parts of other wild animals.
The Forest officials also carried out another raid on the house of Rishi Majhi, a hunter from Chancharaguda village under Jaypatna forest range on the basis of information provided by the arrested persons.
This time, they seized a python skin, a country-made gun and several hunting materials from the house. Majhi was also arrested for illegal possession of wildlife parts and arms.
All the arrested persons have been forwarded to the court, the sources said.
