Bhubaneswar: The hospitalisation rate is less than 2 per cent with only 1,100 of about 61,809 active cases under treatment at health facilities, Public Health Director Niranjan Mishra informed on Saturday.

“Nearly 350 infected persons are in ICUs,” he added.

He said patients suffering from mild to moderate symptoms can stay in home isolation, but those needing oxygen support will have to be admitted.

Referring to the Indian Council of Medical Research’s (ICMR) revised guidelines for COVID testing, the senior health official said that asymptomatic contacts of COVID positive cases need not undergo the test unless suffering from comorbidities.

“People with symptoms have never been advised medication and should avoid unnecessary drugs and antibiotics,” he said.

Mishra further said those recovering from COVID do not need to re-test after staying in home isolation unless they have fever during the last three days. “Those admitted to ICU or are seriously ill need to undergo RT-PCR test to confirm their recovery from the disease,” he said.

Mishra said that the transmission of the disease will continue and there is need to check the percentage of the hospitalisation and death rates.
