Bhubaneswar: Odisha’s Don Juan fake doctor Bidhu Prakash Swain alias Ramesh Swain, who allegedly conned 18 women into marriage over the last three decades, will undergo polygraph test next Wednesday, Mahila police here informed on Friday.
The accused has given his consent for the lie-detection test, it added.
Swain is now cooling his heels in judicial custody after his third-phase police remained ended on Tuesday. Police sources, however, said that he never cooperated during the custodial interrogation, and the polygraph test would help elicit the truth.
Swain was taken on five-day, three-day and five-day police remand in three phases and while he has pleaded innocence, police suspect complicity of his second wife, a doctor in Jharkhand, and his brother-in-law in the fraud. But both of them are still on the run.
Around 10 days after taking the 66-year-old conman into custody, police had arrested his stepsister, Rashmita Beura, for allegedly helping him reinforce his identity as a doctor and win the trust of the women and their families, whom he targetted through matrimonials published in newspapers, but are still struggling to trace his properties and accomplices.
