Dehradun/Bhubaneswar: A Dehradun court on Friday sentenced Rajesh Gulati to life imprisonment for brutally killing his wife Anupama Pradhan, a native of Balasore district.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs 15 lakh on him.
Additional District and Sessions Judge Vinod Kumar had held Gulati, an IT professional, guilty of the murder under Sections 302 (murder) and 201 (destroying evidence) of the IPC, the previous day, and reserved the quantum of punishment.
The incident dates back to October 17, 2010, when Gulati thrashed and smothered his wife to death after a heated exchange. He then used an electric saw to chop off her body into multiple pieces at their rented house at Prakash Nagar in Dehradun Cantonment. The body parts were stored in a freezer before being disposed of in a forest on the outskirts of the city from time to time.
Anupama’s brother Sujan, who did not hear from her for two months, filed a missing person complaint with the Dehradun Police, who found some parts of her body in the freezer and arrested Gulati on December 12, 2010.
The couple had two children and Anupama was constantly subjected to domestic violence.
