Bhubaneswar: The BJD on Tuesday moved Odisha Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), accusing BJP MLA candidate from Titlagarh Naveen Jain of distributing foreign liquor among voters.
In the memorandum submitted to the CEO, the party alleged that BJP workers were seen distributing foreign liquor among people in Naren village under Titlagarg block on Monday while polling was on in Balangir district during the second-round elections. “Such actions are not only illegal but also a blatant attempt to influence voters through unethical means,” they complained.
Urging the CEO for a thorough investigation into this violation of model code of conduct (MCC), the party leaders said they were troubled with the disregard for free and fair elections which sets a dangerous precedent for the future.
The BJD also requested vigilance and enforcement measures to prevent recurrence of such incidents.
