Umerkote: The residents of Teacher’s Colony in Umerkote rescued a newborn baby boy from a garbage dumping place and took him to local hospital in Odisha’s Nabarangpur district.
According to locals, a woman had gone to dispose of household garbage on Monday afternoon when she heard the cries of a newborn. Worried, she called the neighbours and all together rescued the child who was wrapped in a garbage sack and thrown at the place.
One of the locals said the child was in pain and ants were feasting on him. The women lifted the child from the garbage, cleaned him to prevent infection. A medical team rushed to the spot and shifted the newborn to local health centre.
The hospital doctors said he is a premature child weighing around 1.6 kg. The baby was weak and wailing when he arrived at the hospital, the doctor said and added the infant will be handed over to Child Welfare Committee once he fully recovers.
