Sundargarh/Puri: Following a directive from School and Mass Education Minister Samir Ranjan Dash, the Puri and Sundargarh administrations have started doorstep delivery of textbooks for the students of classes I to VIII.
The department took this initiative to ensure that students don’t miss out on learning during the extended lockdown period to contain spread of COVID-19, till May 3.
According to sources, the textbooks have reached block-level and are also available at schools.
Schoolteachers have been directed to make sure that the book distribution gets over by April 25.
Speaking about the tough task assigned to them, a woman teacher said, “Around 65-70 per cent of the total 5,000 primary school teachers in the district are women and a majority of them are posted at schools located very far from their homes.”
The doorstep delivery of books began in Sundargarh on Wednesday and in Puri on Thursday.
In view of the corona pandemic, the Odisha government has shut down all educational institutions in the state till June 17.
