Rayagada: A group of youths brutally assaulted a sarpanch in Rayagada district after he objected to their violating the lockdown by playing cricket in a field.
Police said they have arrested 25 youths after Digambar Sikka, the sarpanch of Bhairabagada in Muniguda block, lodged a complaint against them for beating him.
According to reports, Sikka spotted the boys playing cricket from the panchayat office around 11 am on Thursday. He repeatedly asked them to stop playing and go back to their houses, but the youths ignored him.
When Sikka threatened to call police, the youths attacked him and left him critically injured.
