Jajpur: The lone tigress in Satkosia tiger reserve has not been sighted for nearly two months since November.
But forest officials have ruled out its death, saying that last week they found evidence of hunting by the tigress, aged about 15 years.
“Although we are worried about not being able to collect any visual evidence or pug mark of the tigress for some time, the big cat is safe,” Satkosia DFO Saroj Kumar Panda was quoted in The New Indian Express.
He said that forest officials had reported the death of an adult Sambar in the sanctuary last week, indicating it was hunted by the tigress as leopards usually don’t attack large animals.
Panda said sighting of the tigress has been affected by less number of camera traps. Besides, last footage of the tigress in November found it healthy and without any injury.
